About
Bri Skellie has been dancing as long as she can remember. She was born on Maui, HI, and was raised in spaces of movement and community- by the trees and cane around the Old Maui High where dance classes were held, by her aunties who taught creative movement in the local schools, by the ocean and streams and waterfalls that surrounded her on unceded Hawaiian land.
Bri received her BFA in Dance from Scripps College, and her MFA in Choreography from UC Riverside. She is a trained Somatic Coach with the Strozzi Institute, received a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification when the Anusara School was still actively certifying, has taught dance and movement to children with special needs, elementary, high-school, and college students, and facilitated groups in dance and organizational settings.
After working for almost a decade in leadership in start-ups in the cannabis industry, she also experienced first-hand how executive leadership, business, and corporate settings can encourage compartmentalization, disembodiment, and disconnection. She worked with an executive coach during this time who was also a somatic coach and was inspired to impact others in the way coaching impacted her.
Movement, somatics, dance, choreography, embodied practice, mindfulness, social conditions and sites of power, organizational and relational development have been the realms of her study and discovery.
